It was 10 years ago when I took Mark Smith’s class “Mixed Media Materials” in Parsons School of Design. His colorful work impressed me then and I am not surprised to see him become the official Illustrator for Beijing 2008 Olympic Games. Way to go, Mark! The New Illustrators: Phillip Fivel Nessen

Deroy Peraza | | Wednesday, June 18th, 2008

You might or might not be aware that although we are a design studio, Hyperakt was founded by 2 graduates from Parsons School of Design’s Illustration department. I have also taught in the Illustration department at Parsons for 4 years. So, to honor some of those roots, I’ve decided to add a new series to our blog called The New Illustrators. The series will feature artists gifted with uncommon talent that are fresh out of school.

We’ll start with Phillip, who’s expressive work has a maturity beyond his years. Just one year out of school, Phillips work has been published in The New York Times, Business Week and Playboy to name a few. Check it out here.

Groupies

Julia Vakser | | Monday, July 23rd, 2007

I often do editorial illustrations for newspapers and magazines. Recently, I completed an illustration for a book review “Legacy of Ashes: The History of the CIA” by Tim Weiner, winner of the Pulitzer Prize. The illustration run as a Book World cover for the Washington Post. The same day as the work was published I received multiple phone calls and emails from people, including the author himself, who expressed interest in purchasing the work. Yey, I have groupies. Perhaps, I am really famous and I don’t know it?Legacy of Ashes
