On the morning of November 5, I spent about an hour wandering New York City trying to find a Times, but to no avail—every bodega and corner store was sold out. I really just wanted to glimpse the image again. Now, closely related to Deroy’s post yesterday, here is an overwhelming collection of publications from the world over featuring Obama’s historic victory. I would still love to hold the paper in my hands, but the sight of this is amazing in itself.

In the heat of an election year there is always more than enough tension to go around. Between staying on top of the issues and news, making a decision, then standing up for that decision to both family and friends, I usually need the whole holiday season to lay low. This year the tension seems higher than usual. I could use a long weekend every weekend until November 4.
That is why I appreciated the following video when I saw it. In a speech given by Barack Obama at an Alfred E. Smith fundraiser dinner last night, we see a different side to the democratic nominee. No matter the white bow tie, no matter that Mr. McCain sat nearby, Barack was himself—relaxed, loose and funny. Funnier, in fact, than I have seen him to date. It’s nice to laugh along with the one person who we are all taking so seriously at this moment. In his humor is a breath of fresh air, an exhibition of the true breadth of the human spirit, and just a little more hope.
So as not to be too light-hearted (heaven forbid), Obama’s closing comments are also inspiring.
