Taking Time With Words

Matthew Anderson | , | Wednesday, July 9th, 2008

There are some times when words fail me—ask any of the girls I have ever dated. But not often enough can such moments lay claim to a deserving instigator.

This is one such occasion. I have little to say, though my mouth was at first far enough open for words to proceed from the gap. In the silence, the following images (from French calligrapher Julien Breton – aka: Kaalam) will adequately suffice.

Okay, a couple words: notice the creation of the three dimensional grid, from the floor tiles and pole. The precision in this piece blows me away.

Beautiful Mistakes

Just came across 3 photos on Flickr that made me smile. They are photos imported from the iPhone of Alistair Hall and they have the look of a sunset in a technological apocalypse.

Alistair also has an attractive signs and lettering set.

Vermont / Part 1

Matthew Anderson | , | Wednesday, August 22nd, 2007

I recently took a couple days off and drove up north with my girlfriend. Vermont is the one state in the union I’ve fantasized about since my childhood. But until now I have never stepped foot on its soil. Really, it is no less dreamlike now that I’ve physically been there, but it’s nice to have a tangible image of it in my head. And better still, I have photos to share. Here is some of the visual goodness I came across while traveling.

Still to come in part 2 are more photos (which are still stuck, unprocessed, in my 35mm film dinosaur), and a collection of antique German Beer coasters that I picked up along the way.

Urban Explorers

Jonathan Correira | , | Monday, July 30th, 2007

Interesting article in the New York Times city section this sunday about individuals who explore the forgotten and off limit areas of the city. It discusses several of these individuals and mentions there websites in which they post images of there “discoveries”, which can be found here, here, here, here and here. The aricle also has an audio slide show of Miru Kim and here work, which includes the image below.

The End of Advertising

Matthew Anderson | , | Tuesday, July 24th, 2007

I’ve often wondered our world would look like sans advertising. It’s pasted everywhere, from T-shirts to the grocery store check-out lane. Lame. Now we have a view of what it could really look like, thanks to a new law in South America’s largest city. Sao Paulo has recently passed a bill to fight the “visual pollution” of billboards city wide. View the Flickr photoset, or the full article.
