Hyperakt is Born
After graduating from Parsons School of Design in May, 2001, and 5 months of freelancing, Deroy Peraza reserves the domain name Hyperakt.com. The name Hyperakt was chosen for a variety of reasons. It originates from a loose translation of Deroy's childhood nickname "Trompo Loco," which is directly translated from Spanish as "crazy spinning top." The nickname referred to Deroy's hyperactive behavior as a child. The word Hyperakt fit nicely into the vocabulary of the world wide web, where the prefix hyper- is used in words such as hypertext and hyperlink. Hyperakt, as a verb, can be interpreted as an exaggeration of the word interact, which is what one does on the web. The reasons behind the choice of the letter "k" instead of "c" in the name are admittedly more subjective. The dynamic letter "k" is visually more representative of the attitude behind the name. It also makes the name harder to pinpoint geographically, which is consistent with the nature of the web. On a more pragmatic note, Hyperact.com was taken at the time and Hyperakt.com was not, so there you have it.
