Every year, football fans are treated to new interpretations of their clubs’ classic kits (uniforms). It’s a way to rekindle the passion of fans, and for the kit makers to cash in on demand for the latest jerseys. With all this change comes a mixed bag of great reinterpretations, solid classics, and tragic missteps.
Fox Soccer, News Corp’s cable channel dedicated exclusively to the beautiful game, was the premier broadcaster of English Premier League, US Soccer & FIFA matches in the US until was absorbed into Fox Sports 1 & 2 in 2013. Fox continues to be a game day destination, and to contribute to the ongoing explosion of soccer fandom in America.
Fox Soccer asked us to document the kit sets (home, away and in some cases, third kit) of 25 of Europe’s biggest clubs. They also asked us to rank the quality of their design. Nine Hyperaktivisits participated in the vote – eight of whom are not soccer fans and were therefore unbiased in their decisions. Here are the results, counted down from worst to best, with Liverpool leading the hall of shame.
