Restoring Promise

Working cooperatively to honor heritage and build trust in programs that restore dignity to young adults in the criminal legal system.

Background

Restoring Promise, a Vera initiative in partnership with MILPA Collective is creating housing units grounded in dignity for young adults in prison. People in prison deserve to be treated with dignity and experience safety, healing, and connection to family & loved ones.

Restoring Promise Values

Restoring calls for truth-telling and healing through partnership with incarcerated people and staff that disrupts the written and unwritten rules and regulations that define prison systems. The word Promise acknowledges the systemic harms done to generations of young people of color and commits to a restorative process in which they can realize their full potential until prisons become obsolete.
