Designers don’t talk about money at all, but how are we able to know if we are valuing our work correctly if we have nothing to compare it against?

Born and raised in Mexico City, Armin is a graphic designer and writer now living in Austin, Texas. He is co-founder of UnderConsideration, a graphic design firm and publishing enterprise all rolled into one. While he has written for most of the well-known trade publications, he is better known for his writing on the blogs that make up the UnderConsideration online network, as well as from the books he has co-authored with his wife and partner, Bryony Gomez-Palacio. Armin spends a modest time on the road lecturing and serving on design juries. Through UnderConsideration’s Department of Design he designs corporate identities, books and web sites for a few clients.

  • A person stands in front of an audience in a classroom, gesturing towards a large screen with a projector displaying a slide. The slide reads, "Active self-criticism is uncomfortable. High self-esteem is dangerous." The room is filled with seated attendees.
  • A long, crusty baguette sandwich filled with cheese and a reddish spread, possibly tomato-based. The bread is sprinkled with sesame seeds and placed on a wooden surface. The sandwich is sliced into portions.
  • A group of people are gathered in a modern, open office kitchen area, socializing and eating. The room has white walls, a long wooden table, an office desk with a computer and a telephone in the foreground, and an upstairs loft visible in the background.
